Statement on Beach Bags' and affiliates' false patent infringement accusations and rumors.
You may have received communications or heard rumors originating from our competitor, Hotwire Development, LLC (doing business as Beach Bags), suggesting that Shorehold’s water bladder anchoring systems infringe on their patents. These communications may have also suggested that using our products could result in legal issues for you. After they refused our formal demands to retract their false and defamatory statements, we felt it was necessary to address the situation publicly and share the truth directly with you.
We want to be completely transparent with our customers and assure you that Shorehold respects the intellectual property rights of others and does not infringe on patents. To ensure our customers are protected, we have retained a top national patent law firm, Lowenstein Sandler, to conduct a comprehensive legal analysis of the claims. We have secured a formal legal opinion confirming that Shorehold does not infringe on any of Beach Bags’ issued or known pending patents. Furthermore, the opinion notes that even if an infringement claim were made, those patent claims would likely be deemed invalid.
The communications being sent by Beach Bags and known affiliates in our opinion are misleading and designed to intimidate our current and potential clients. During an August 4, 2025, meeting between Shorehold and the CEO of Beach Bags, Troy Sherman, he acknowledged our product's ingenuity and admitted that Shorehold was not infringing on their patents. Despite this direct admission, in our opinion Beach Bags has continued to make knowing misrepresentations about our business to the public.
Furthermore, Beach Bags was recently issued a new patent in April 2026. We want to assure you that our legal team has already thoroughly reviewed this new patent, and our formal legal opinion remains unchanged: Shorehold’s products do not infringe upon this new patent.
In a letter from Beach Bags’ attorney dated March 24, 2026 to Shorehold, they state “Patents legally limit competition in select markets, like Lake Powell.” We believe this statement highlights their anti-competitive strategy aimed at blocking Shorehold and others from offering alternative solutions. Ultimately, this approach, in our opinion, is contrary to the best financial and environmental interests of Lake Powell houseboat owners, concessioners, and the National Park Service. These groups are best served by having a competitive variety of affordable and environmentally legal anchoring options on the lake.
To clear up any rumors, there is currently no active litigation between Shorehold and Beach Bags.
We refuse to be bullied by anti-competitive tactics, and we will not let our customers be threatened with sham legal issues.
On April 14, 2026, our legal counsel, Ray Quinney & Nebeker P.C., sent a formal demand to Beach Bags requiring them to immediately cease and desist their defamatory statements, tortious interference, and false advertising against Shorehold.
We are ready to pursue all available legal remedies to protect our reputation and your right to choose the best anchoring system for your needs.
